ASUS X43S X43SJ X43SV Laptop Battery charged and discharged

Note that it is recommended that you avoid fully discharging the battery every day. Top-ups are much better than using the notebook continuously until the battery is flat.

ASUS X43S battery detail:

Battery Type:  Li-ion
Voltage:  10.8V or 11.1V
Capacity: 56Wh / 6Cell
Weight:  355g
Color: Black

The test battery was fully charged and then discharged to 70 percent to resemble the SoC of a micro hybrid in real life. The battery was then discharged at 25A for 40 seconds to simulate engine off condition at stoplight with the headlight on, before cranking the engine at 400A and recharging. The CCA readings were taken with the Spectro CA-12.

Caution also applies to purchasing counterfeit chargers. Some aftermarket chargers do not terminate the battery correctly and rely on the battery’s internal protection circuit to cut off the charge when the battery is full. The need for redundancy in charging is important because a bona fide battery could have a malfunctioning protection circuit that was damaged by a static charge or other cause. If, for example, the maker of the counterfeit battery relies on the charger to terminate the charge, and the manufacturer of the charger depends fully on the battery’s protection circuit, a combination exists that can have serious consequences.

Battery calibration works by allowing the Smart battery micro-controller to re-calculate the length of time that a battery will last for. All you need to do is to ensure that the system goes from a fully charged state to a fully discharged state. This is done by simply ensuring the system stays on for as long as the battery will last.

If you are unsure how to recalibrate your battery, the BatCal utility below will guide you through the steps you need to take. If you are not going to use the notebook, you can use the Fast Discharge option so that the charge will be used up quickly. If you wish to use the notebook during the battery discharge sequence, use the Slow Discharge option (or simply Exit the utility). This utility can be used on any tablet PC or notebook and simply guides you through a full charge - full discharge - full charge cycle.

It should also be noted that Lithium-Ion batteries tend to 'die' rather suddenly when they have reached the end of their life, whilst NiMH batteries will slowly degrade when they are nearing the end of their useful life. As a Lithium-Ion battery is taken through more charge/discharge cycles, it will deteriorate much faster if mistreated (eg left charging for 2 months during the school holidays with inadequate ventilation in direct sunlight), so that you may find a drastic reduction in capacity as the battery approaches the end of its useful life (eg after 300-500 full charge/discharge cycles).
